Auger Drive Belt Replacement On A Snow Blower

by Jeremy HIPA 21 Dec 2022 0 Comments

This blog is a step-by-step instruction for replacing the auger drive belt on a Cub Cadet snowblower. The most common reasons for replacing the auger drive belt is when the snow blower auger won’t turn.

Replacement

Before you begin the replacement, you need to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting. We recommend performing this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.
Step 1: Use a 3/8 inch socket to remove the bolt securing the belt cover. Pull the cover off if still intact. Remove the auger drive belt from both the engine drive poly and the idler pulley.
Step 2: Carefully tip the snow blower forward sword rests on the auger housing. Use the 3/8 inch socket to remove the mounting bolts securing the frame cover and pull the cover off. Use a 9/16 inch wrench to loosen the belt retaining bolts so you can remove it.
Step 3: Next depress the drive liver and use a spring clamp to hold it in palce. You can now remove the belt from the auger drive pulley. Lift the drive plate and pull the old belt free. You are now ready to install the new auger drive belt.
Step 4: Feed the new belt under the drive plate and through the housing. Loop the belt onto the auger drive pulley. Remove the clamp to release the drive lever. Reposition the belt retaining bolt and tighten. Realign the frame cover and replace the mounting bolts to secure.
Step 5: Return the snow blower to its upright position. Now align the new belt on the engine drive pulley and the idler pulley. Replace the belt cover, rethread the bolts and tighten.

With the repair completed, reattach the spark plug wire and boot to the spark plug, and refill the fuel tank. Now your snow blower should be ready for use.
