Question A: When does the chain need sharpening?

Answer : The chain does not pull itself into the cut, it has to be forced to cut by applying pressure to the powerhead.
When bucking, fine sawdust is pulled from the cut instead of coarse, thick chips.
Smoking in the cut even though chain lubrication is in order and chain tension is correct.
The cut wanders in one direction. This is an indication of dull cutters on one side of the chain or irregular cutter lengths.
When the saw "chatters" and "bounces" during the cut, you must check the depth gauge settings.

Question B: what size file for chainsaw chain?

Anwser: Chain Pitch
The file size is subject to the chain pitch of your chainsaw chain. The higher the pitch is, the bigger the chain file you’ll need. If you sharpen your chain with a wrong size file, you may destroy the saw chain.
File Types
There are two common file types: round file and flat file. The round file is designed to sharpen the side and the top plate of the cutting teeth, while the flat one to sharpen the depth gauge. when choosing a right round file, you should make sure the file size is matching your saw chain size, while the flat file is for common use without much limit.

Question C: Why You Need to Sharpen Your Chainsaw Chain?

Answer : Regular sharpening maintains cutting efficiency, ensures smoother cuts, reduces kickback risks, and prolongs the lifespan of your chainsaw chain. It is essential for maintaining safety and achieving the best results.

Question D: What's the Benefits of Hand Sharpening Files?

Answer : Hand sharpening files are an excellent choice for chainsaw owners due to their convenience and ease of use. With these files, anyone can sharpen their chainsaw at home or in a workshop with great results, provided they have a good understanding of the process.

Question E: How to Sharpen Chainsaw Chain with File?

Answer : Marking and Filing:

Locate the starting point or hash mark on the tooth. Align the file with the mark, hold it level, and start filing. Take note that chainsaw blades have a sharp side that points in different directions. When sharpening adjacent blades, they should be filed in opposite directions. Consult the manual or manufacturer for guidance if your chain lacks a hash mark. Alternatively, you can check the angle of the blade's cutting edge to find the correct angle for filing the chainsaw chain.
Adjusting Chain Depth:

Use a chainsaw chain depth gauge to determine if the teeth are sticking above the gauge. If so, use a flat file to file them down, ensuring they are level with the top of the gauge. High rakers make dust and slow cutting and rakers set too low can repeatedly bog down the saw.
Maintain consistent direction when filing the teeth to prevent chatter. Once all the depth gauges are sharpened, the chain is ready for installation.

Question F: What angle to file chainsaw chain?

Answer : For most standard chains, a sharpening angle of 30 degrees is commonly used. If you're crosscutting wood, this is typically the ideal angle. However, for ripping with the grain, it's better to use an angle of 10 degrees.
Always ensure the file is held at a 90-degree angle (right angle) to the guide bar for accurate sharpening.
