The solenoid valve acts similar to a solenoid switch in that it engages and delivers the battery's electrical supply to the engine starter when the ignition switch is turned to the start position.
Over time, it may wear out or become damaged and eventually need to be replaced.
The following tools are required to replace the starter solenoid: socket wrench, screwdriver (flat head or Phillips), wire cutters or strippers, electrical tape or wire connectors, refer to procedure:
1. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting of the engine.
2.Locate the starter solenoid on the mower. It is usually located near the battery or starter.
3. Use a socket wrench to remove the nut or bolt that holds the solenoid to the mower. Remember these fasteners as they will be needed for replacement.
4. After loosening the solenoid, disconnect the wires connected to it. Make a note of which wire is connected to which terminal on the solenoid.
5. Remove the old solenoid from the mower. Remove the new solenoid and connect the wires to their respective terminals. It may be necessary to use wire connectors or electrical tape to secure the connections.
6. Place the new solenoid in the same position as the old solenoid and secure it with the nut or bolt previously removed.
7. Double check all connections to make sure they are tightened securely. Reconnect the spark plug wires.
8.Start the engine to test the mower and make sure the new solenoid is working properly.
