Float Bowl Gasket Replacement On A Lawn Mower Carburetor

by Jeremy HIPA 06 Dec 2022 0 Comments

This blog is a step-by-step instruction for replacing the float bowl gasket on a Honda style carburetor. The most common reasons for replacing the gasket is if the carburetor is leaking fuel.

Replacement

Before you begin the replacement, you need to make sure the engine has cooled and remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting and close the fuel valve.
Step 1: Press the retaining tabs down to release the air housing cover and set the cover and air filter aside.
Step 2: Use a 10 millimeter socket to unthread the mounting bolts securing the air filter housing and carburetor. Detach the filter housing from the breather tube.
Step 3: Next release the retaining clamp and detach the fuel line from the carburetor. Disconnect the throttle return spring and the governor rod to release the carburetor.
Step 4: Use a 10 millimeter wrench to unthread the screw securing the carburetor bowl. Lift off the bowl and remove the old gasket. Install the new bowl gasket by aligning it in the groove. Remove the old gasket from the bowl screw and slide on the new gasket. Replace the bowl then thread and tighten the screw to secure.
Step 5: Reinstall the carburetor by first connecting the governor rod and throttle return spring to the throttle arm. Attach the fuel line and secure with the clamp. Next attach the breath tube to the air filter housing and insert the mounting bolts through the housing. Slide on the air cleaner gasket followed by the carburetor. Now slide on the air guide gasket followed by the choke control assembly. Slide on the intake gasket then thread the bolts into the engine and tighten to secure.
Step 6: Replace the air filter in the housing then align the lower cover tabs with the housing and snap the upper tabs into place.

With the repair completed, reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and open the fuel valve. Now you lawn mower should be ready for use.
