Remove the side plate
The first step is to remove the side plate. There are three nuts that hold everything together, two on the same side, and another one in the front of the plate.
You need to unscrew these nuts by using a socket wrench and flat head screwdriver respectively to dismantle the side plate.
Then, you are able to take off the side plate easily.
NOTE: The brake of the Poulan Pro 220LE chainsaw is attached to the side plate. If there is a brake attached to the side panel, you need to dismantle it or you will find it difficult to access your chainsaw chain.
Release the chain tension
Usually, the tensioner is founded on the inside of the guide bar. But the case of Poulan Pro 220LE chainsaw is different.
You need to loosen it with your flat head screwdriver a little so that your old chainsaw chain will be released easily.
Remove the old chain
After release the tension, you are able to remove the old chain easily.
Thread the new chain onto the guide bar
Once your new chain is on the groove of the guide bar, you need to thread the chain onto the chainsaw’s clutch drum and make sure that all the drive links gear with the sprocket.
Tighten the chain to the correct tension
After threaded, you need to adjust your chain to the correct tension by tightening the tensioner.
Put the side plate back on
Adjust your guide bar level to the right position. Then, put the side plate back on your chainsaw as well as the three nuts with a socket wrench and flat head screwdriver. At last, tighten the nuts a little loose.
